You can be a Local Hero too! 🦸

Volunteering is a great way to make new friends, connect with your community, and find that sense of belonging and acceptance that simply can't be found from chasing attention as a digital zombie 📱🧟. However finding local volunteering events can be challenging. That's why I built the Volunteerium, a volunteer discovery network designed to provide volunteers and their communities 🏡 with a platform for connecting with each other.

However, the Volunteerium isn't your typical social networking platform. It is also a pioneering experimental community that is gamifying volunteerism to cultivate local community service ✨ as an alternative no-cost social outlet and means of local engagement. I call this gamified volunteerism Karmanomics.

In the Volunteerium we earn Karma Points (KP) by volunteering our time. While volunteering for individual members of our community is always welcomed, we receive twice as many KP when volunteering for groups 🤝. As your KP pile up your Karma Level (KL) will also periodically grow. Leveling up unlocks access to additional site features as well as any rewards 🎁 that other volunteers choose to make available to us based on our KL. The minimum KL needed to unlock a reward will typically increase with the scarcity of the reward, and will usually be shown like: @KL 3

Elected Moderators Coming Soon!

Just as a police force is a necessary government service in even the smallest town, Content Moderation is necessary to filter and remove any harmful content that gets posted in a community's social network. Unlike policing however, the act of moderating content is grounded not in specialized training, but in acculturation to the norms and precedents of the community. For this reason, a community's content moderators should be democratically chosen by the community itself.
